EU policy

As Christian Democrats, we think that the European Union needs to be built as an instrument of collaboration between the states. In its activities, the Union needs to focus on issues in which considerable added value can be obtained for the everyday life of the citizens.

Finland needs to boldly adhere to the priciples of subsidiarity and proportionality in the EU, and boldly maintain its own position in solutions demanding unanimity. The Parliament needs to handle all EU legislation before it is decided upon on the EU level.

In our opinion:

• The equality of the member states is a requirement for the justification of the entire union. In the European Union, division into memberships of different value needs to be avoided. No special priviledges should be given to the larger countries. The statutes of the Stability and Growth Pact need to be adhered to in the case of all member states.

• In the European Union, especially the Northern Dimension and the Baltis Sea cooperation need to be advocated.
